The Marionette (who is also referred to as The Puppet within the game's phone calls and was later entirely retconned into being named as so within The Return to Freddy's: The Dreadful Truth) is a gift-giving animatronic in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza that appears throughout the official Five Nights at Freddy's series and in the The Return to Freddy's Saga.

The Marionette first appears in The Return to Freddy's Classic, as the main antagonist of the game and is responsible for the animatronics trying to kill the player. The Marionette in this game, is being used by BFP as his temporal "tomb", since his original one, Lockjaw, was inaccessible to him during that time.

Appearance[]

Its appearance was reused from Five Nights at Freddy's 2. The Marionette has a white face with black, hollow eyes (aside from its jumpscare and a small in-game cutscene, in which it gains small, white pupils). Its face is similar to that of a Pierrot, with rosy red cheeks, purple stripes that stretch from the bottom of its eyes to the top of its mouth, and red lipstick painted on in an exaggerated pucker.

Its body is somewhat reminiscent of a sock monkey's, with its round, oblong shape, thin waist, three white buttons, rounded hands that feature three spindly fingers each, and white stripes on the wrists and ankles, along with a thin, long neck. It has no feet, but its legs are tapered to a point. It has neither hair nor head accessories.

Behaviour[]

The Marionette is first active on Night 1 and onwards, and starts in the Party Room. It will then move to the Dining Area, and to the Show Stage, where it will then resurrect Bonnie (Freddy Fazbear the second time, and Chica the third time) as an agressive machine before going to the East Hall. It will then appear in the East Hall Corner before appearing in your Security Office. If the player doesn't put on the Freddy Mask in time, it will jumpscare the player.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike FNaF 2, the player doesn't actually have to wind up the Music Box to keep The Marionette at bay, in this game The Marionette now acts like a normal animatronic.
  • The Marionette and its mechanics are likely inspired by the popular Jack-in-the-box children's toy, due to the fact that it comes from a box, music precedes its attack, and it launches itself to attack.
  • The Music Box's melody within this game originally comes from a fan-made Slenderman song uploaded onto YouTube by the series' future composer, Sigrid Rodriguez in March of 2014. This song itself is a music box rendition of the song "Come Little Children" from the 1993 Disney film Hocus Pocus.
  • The Marionette was meant to be given an original model in the Major Update of TRTF Classic of 2016 along with a graphical overhaul to the game altogether, until these were cancelled.
    • However on 2018 when the Major Updates were uncancelled, Tyler Ahlström said in a private conversation with ShaneTheBarbarian, the only known modeller of the updates, that he was going to use the "Spiraled Animatronics" models (who's appearances are unknown) and some other new assets for TRTF Classic's graphics.[1]

The Puppet makes a reappearance in The Return to Freddy's 2 as a major antagonist. It is an recently introduced mechanical marionette who serves as a gift-giving animatronic at the newly reopened Fredbear's Family Diner, obtaining the position of Sugar and Kitty FazCat.

During the guard's nightshift, The Puppet becomes possessed by BFP who is responsible for Puppet's aggressive behavior during the night, due to his fury at not being able to find someone to free him from his inescapable curse: being trapped inside the Frankburt suit.

Appearance[]

Like the rest of the animatronics from the second game, the Puppet finally obtained an original model. It appears just like its appearance in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 once again, except its colors appear to be brighter and he is missing white stripes on its limbs. His face also appears to look slightly crumpled, like paper.

Behaviour[]

The Puppet is first active on Night 1 onward, but will only function if the player does not wind the music box in time in Party Room 2 similar to its original FNAF2 counterpart. Each night, the Puppet's AI will go higher, which fastens the pace of the music box counter going empty. Once the counter is empty, the Puppet will leave the music box and jumpscare the player after a couple seconds.

Trivia[]

  • Strangely, the gift box is absent from Party Room 2.
  • When he jumpscares the player, it seems that he goes a bit to the right and then return to its actual position when he jumpscares the player. This is most likely an animation error.
    • Other animatronics can jumpscare the player in the same way as Puppet does, but they don't encounter this error.
  • In the game files, there are images of its TRTF Classic/FNAF2 counterpart.
  • The Puppet is one of the antagonists in The Return to Freddy's 2 who doesn't have teeth.
  • The Puppet is the only animatronic that doesn't appear in the hallway. Not including Hallucinations.
  • It is unknown what happened to the Puppet, but it could've been scrapped for parts or sold to another location to never to be seen again.
    • This theory also goes for Dug, as he never appears in the later games.
  • If the Puppet's AI is set higher, the music box will need to be re-winded more often.
  • Within the alphas of the game, the Puppet is actually completeley incapable of jumpscaring the player and failing to wind up the music box will result in nothing happening.
  • The Puppet is one of the three gift-giving animatronics, others include Sugar and Kitty FazCat.
  • The Puppet and its mechanics are likely inspired by the popular Jack-in-the-box children's toy, due to the fact that it comes from a box, music precedes its attack, and it launches itself to attack.
  • The Puppet is believed to be sentient and sapient as the Phone Guy states that it is "always thinking".
  • The Puppet is the only animatronic who doesn't have footsteps, with the other being Lockjaw (not including hallucinations).
  • In the unreleased v2.1 iteration of TRTF 2, The Puppet is removed from the custom night roster.
  • The melody for The Puppet's music box within the game's demos was originally uploaded by the series' composer onto YouTube in February of 2014 (over a year before the demo's release date).

"Non-Canon"
This article is not canon to the main TRTF timeline. Proceed at your own risk.

The Puppet comes back in The Return to Freddy's: Desolation as one of the antagonists in the first part of the game.

Appearance[]

It is a more stylized and glossy version of The Puppet from The Return to Freddy's Classic, having a purple bowtie, teeth, and visible joints. It bears a strong resemblance to its appearance from The Return to Freddy's: Chapter One, albeit with slight differences, such as different colored buttons and a lack of lips.

Behavior[]

The Puppet appears in any room in Floor 13. To get them into the Arcade Machine, 1st find The Puppet, then Control Shock the Puppet, and keep an eye on them so that they don't kill and jumpscare you.

Scrapped
This article contains characters and/or events that are from scrapped games or were cut in development from finished games.

The Puppet, also known as The Marionette, is a mechanical marionette that serves as a gift-giving animatronic at Freddy Emporium, which was planned to make its first appearance in The Return to Freddy's: Chapter One, but was removed from the game along with all of the other FNAF characters in order to make it an original game. Not much information was given about the character.

Appearance[]

The Puppet is a heavily detailed tall humanoid animatronic made out of, what seems to be, a plastic casting. His whole body is now more articulated and colored in a glossy cloudish black color with several straight purple stripes on them. It wears a shiny bowtie and three big black buttons on its chest.

Behavior[]

As revealed by Scrubby, who was close to development of the game, The Puppet would have came out of his Gift Box and prepare itself to attack the player. In order to defend themselves, the player must have had to cut the rope that was holding it so he would fall. If the player failed or neglected to do so would have made the Puppet to jumpscare them, resulting into a game over.

Trivia[]

  • One of the previous versions of the Puppet showcases him with visible ochre-colored eyes, unlike to all of its previous iterations from the Original Continuity, and with big morbid teeth.
  • It is unknown if the Puppet's endoskeleton originally belonged to one of the "Spiraled Animatronics", which were mysterious animatronic characters that came from a previous location, since it doesn't appear to have one.
